About Me
Thank you for taking the time to visit my page! My name is Shelby Cassesse and I am a reporter with a passion for news and sports. Currently, I am a nightside reporter with KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh, PA. I have been with the station since October 2019 and enjoy telling Western Pennsylvania's stories.
Though the COVID-19 pandemic has limited my work with KDKA-AM and 93.7 The Fan, I work with these stations as a weekend news anchor and sports reporter. I joined the station in July 2017 and cover Pittsburgh's collegiate and professional sports teams, as well as local news events. On weekends, I produce and anchor local newscasts at the top and bottom of each hour from 5 am to 1 pm. In April 2019, I was a nominee for Pittsburgh Magazine's 2019 Pittsburgh Magazine “Best Of The ‘Burgh” Best Sports Reporter.
I am also a freelance broadcaster for Trib Live's High School Sports Network. Typically, I am a sideline reporter for the video game of the week in high school football and basketball. I am also a play-by-play and color analyst for several high school sports.
Prior to arriving in Pittsburgh, I spent two years as a sports reporter and anchor for WDTV in Bridgeport, WV beginning in 2015. As a member of the 5 Sports team, I consistently anchored and produced the sports block for the weekday 6:00 pm and 11:00 pm news, as well as the weekend 11:00 pm news. As a reporter, I shot games and interviews, and wrote and edited VOs, SOTSs and packages on our local high school, college and professional teams and athletes. Our team also aired an hour-long Friday night high school football and basketball show. Our coverage area included 27 high schools, four DII colleges, West Virginia University, the Pittsburgh Pirates and their minor league affiliate West Virginia Black Bears. During my time at WDTV, I covered the Sweet Sixteen in San Jose, MLB Opening Day, the 2015 Wild Card game between the Pirates and the Chicago Cubs, the women's NCAA Basketball Tournament, the Jimmy V Classic in New York City and several Big 12 football and men's basketball games, both in Morgantown and around the country.
I am a graduate of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in journalism and public relations. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Honors College with a 3.77 GPA. I also made the Dean's List seven times.
In the fall of 2014, I was nominated for a Collegiate Mid-Atlantic Emmy for a series of packages I completed on the construction of the Pittsburgh crèche for the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh and WQED. I was the first Duquesne student to be nominated for the award.
While at Duquesne, I held six internships in the broadcast field, including FOX Chicago, the Pittsburgh Penguins and 93.7 The Fan. During my time at these internships, I had the opportunity to cover the Stanley Cup Finals in Chicago, a full NHL season and postseason in Pittsburgh, a Stadium Series hockey game and an MLB regular season.
